Excellency, I concur with
regarding this
most unsatisfactory, & I am authorized to take an early opportunity of stating to the French Government that such is the opinion of H.M.; and you will express their hope that this matter, which may hereafter, if allowed to follow its present course, lead to grave questions between the two countries, may receive further and serious consideration at the hands of the French Govt.
I join the despatch
with H.M. Secty. of State for the Colonies
on the subject of Gr's present Despatch; & I shall reserve any further observations respecting the French reply until I have ascertained H.M.G.'s views thereupon.
